10 YEARS 🥹

10 years ago today, I stepped foot into ORBE Norwood and started my hairdressing career as a fresh faced 16 year old who was only at school two days earlier and was all of a sudden working full time.

I was one of the lucky ones who ALWAYS knew what my career was going to be.
At age 7 I taught myself how to plait on my little pony’s mane.
By age 9 I was doing my own hair and makeup for dance concerts.
By age 11 I was practicing upstyling on friends after school,
and by age 14 I had my first REAL PAYING CLIENT who booked me in for her year 12 formal hair.

I never knew where this career was going to take me. I remember coming home in tears after long days at work telling mum I didn’t know if it’s what I really wanted. But there was something always holding me in it.

The last 10 years have not been an easy walk in the park for my personal life and mental health, but the one thing that has ALWAYS remained my constant, was hairdressing.
This job kept me going on so many days when I didn’t think I could. This job helped me put food on the table for me and my son when I was going through a separation out of an abusive relationship.
I showed up to work each day with a purpose to make my clients feel good, even if I wasn’t.
And in so many ways, my clients showed up for me and helped me through so many difficult times.

Hairdressing is so much more than just hair to me… I cannot even describe into words the feeling I get when I see a clients confidence completely flip from the first time they sit in my chair to when they walk out of the salon.
Or the warm fuzzies I can’t get from anything else but seeing my brides reactions after they see themselves looking and feeling like a BRIDE for the first time, on the most important day in their life.

This job is so much more than just a job.
Hairdressing is more than just doing hair.

I never thought I would have the opportunities I have had in this career if you asked me 10 years ago.
I didn’t know how big this industry was and the places it would take me.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey along the way, you all know who you are 🩷
